Camp Bluestar Part B is a half-day maker camp, geared towards children ages 8+ who are looking to immerse themselves in a hands-on, unique, creative setting. I love making things for my home, am a big believer in DIY culture, and have chosen a series of projects that will be both challenging and empowering - leaving your child with a number of take-home, quality, functional pieces. Skills covered will be: block printing, hand-sewing, painting, dyeing, wood construction, beading, sculpting, wire-working, and stenciling.

General Info:

August 5-9, 2019
1:00p - 5:00p
2404 Commonwealth Avenue, Madison, WI  53711

Details:

Each day will include instruction, ample creative/making time, a healthy snack, and hopefully some time for a guided walk or simple yoga series. Camp tuition includes all materials, a drawstring bag, sketchbook, and daily snacks. All students will be required to have a parent-signed liability waiver before camp starts.

Camp Bluestar Part B will take place at my home and backyard. Bug spray and sunscreen will be provided, though please feel free to send some along with your child if you have a preferred type/brand. Please note, we do have a dog and cat (they will be put away during camp), so there will be pet fur and/or dander in the vicinity. Also, please let me know if your child has any dietary restrictions.

Holler if you have any questions or concerns before registering for camp. Art is a way of life for me and my family, and I look forward to making art with your child and helping them unlock their creative potential! At Camp Bluestar, sometimes we get messy, sometimes we make mistakes, but we'll always have a blast!

*Apron or old t-shirt smock is recommended.

Main Project Descriptions:

  • Block-Printed Drawstring Bag - Campers will customize their canvas drawstring bag utilizing a variety of block-printing techniques. Their fun, patterned bags will be perfect for carrying all of their projects home!

  • Mixed Media Canvas Wall Hanging - This project is for the kid who just wants to do their own thing. Campers will decorate their canvas first with paint, then embellish it with some simple embroidery stitching and optional pompoms and tassels. Finishing it off with a dowel or stick hanger, your camper will be proud to display their work of art in their bedroom.

  • BoHo Chandelier - Who says art only hangs on a wall? Let’s make something fun and whimsical to hang from your camper’s ceiling, too! Combining yarn, beads, tassels, pompoms, and a bit of focus, they will create a colorful chandelier that is sure to bring a smile to everyone’s face.

  • Clay Photo Display - Do you want to display that family photo or selfie, but lack the shelf space for a traditional frame? Or maybe you’re looking for a way to show off the ticket from your favorite show, your drawing or that postcard from Hawaii? Let’s make some cute clay and wire photo stands that could also double as tabletop place holders. So many possibilities!

  • Wood Pen Holders - If your desk is anything like mine, you have lots of pens and pencils scattered all over. Let’s get organized! We’re going to build a simple storage box out of pre-cut pieces of pine. Campers will get to sand and assemble their boxes, then paint them however they see fit!

  • Dyed Cushion Cover - Let’s have some fun with dye! Starting with a basic white canvas cushion cover, campers will learn two ways to dye their canvas to make it their own. There will even be an option of adding some stenciled designs or words. As always, they can customize it even further by adding some pompoms or tassels as a finishing touch. This is sure to liven any bedroom decor!
